Sadly, this doesn’t surprise me, in fact Trump has operated this way his entire life. Everything Trump, hide, lie, project. Everyone else, including his colleagues, get as much dirt on them, any way possible to bend them to my will. Anything for “Orange Jesus”

We’ve reached the point where we have essentially another watergate, but we’re all just like “yeah, that checks out.”

God help us.

I don’t take this election as anything that resembles a normal run of the mill election. Compared to watergate, it’s so much worse. During Watergate we had a justice system that wasn’t horribly corrupt as we have today. There were guardrails, the Republicans did the right thing and made Nixon resign. You won’t find a republican today that can make Trump do the right thing. When I say “it doesn’t surprise me” don’t mistake that for apathy. I am well aware these are dangerous times in America. Trump and his minions want violence whether they win or lose. Trump has demanded it. When a country falls it’s because the justice system will not stop the evil from holding power. I have no faith in our justice system. God help us is right.

I understand you, but I would also point out that many Republican judges threw out their phony 2020 election lies. Many others have held our right to vote in hundreds of election law cases since then.

SCOTUS is corrupt and many others are as well, like the 5th circuit, but its not all completely gone.

It’s close, abortion is just one example. Trump should have been criminally investigated on January 7th. I blame Garland for that.

Garland wasn't AG until March 2021 because 30 Senators didn't want him, or any other AG to be appointed by Biden.

Point taken but I still think Garland should have appointed a special counsel the first day of his taking the position

That was then though. Back when a few still choose to do the right thing. I'm not being cynical when I say this. I genuinely wonder how many aren't compromised by now. We're coming up on 5 years since then. Alot has happened and none of it good.

To the contrary, if you check out Democracy Docket newsletter, they’ve been tracking all the voting laws and lawsuits. They have a running tally that shows we’ve won twice as many as we lost and the vast majority of the serious cases.

So far, the guardrails are holding. We do our part and trust them to do theirs (with a heavy dose of scrutiny). Otherwise, we’ve already lost. I have hope for building a better future. I think people are finally realizing how close we came to the worst case scenario.

Not me, I’m certain this is hair on fire time; but those that actually have power seem to not be doing anything
